This tweak lets you unlock your iPhone with a piano-based passcode

More than six years ago, I was pleasantly surprised by the release of a fun and quirky jailbreak tweak called Piano Passcode that would let you unlock your iPhone by entering a specific piano tune in place of a numeric passcode.

It seems like these fun and quirky jailbreak tweaks don’t come around as often as they used to, and that’s precisely why I’m excited to show you a new jailbreak tweak release called PianoPassby iOS developer SparkDev.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, PianoPass is a remake the popular classic, and it enables you to unlock your iPhone or iPad by playing a piano-centric tune from your Lock screen. Subtle differences between the classic and the newly-released remake are the non-skeuomorphic design and addition of configurable options, which you’ll find in the Settings app after installation:

Here, you can:

  • Enable or disable the tweak on demand
  • Configure a desired piano-centric passcode
  • Hide or show the piano key labels
  • Shake the interface if entry is incorrect
  • Toggle piano sounds on or off
  • Configure a preferred octave via a slider

While you’re configuring the preferred piano-centric passcode, you’ll want to use a familiar tune that you’ll remember the next time you’re asked to enter it. The interface shows you the notes that you enter, and you can save your tune with the blue Save button at the top-right of the interface.

PianoPass is a blast from the past, but it’s worth noting that the tweak is in its beta stages and bugs are to be expected. The tweak works with all jailbroken iOS 11 and 12 devices.

Those interested in downloading PianoPass can download it from SparkDev’s beta repositoryin Cydia or Sileo. Upon downloading, users will need to sign in with a Member Plus account, but when the tweak comes out of beta (as early as next week if all bugs can be fixed), it will be available to everyone.
